Four Nations Project

The Four Nations project brings together WBG partners from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Funded by Open Society Foundation, the project has enabled WBG partners in the devolved nations to build their internal structures, networks and political influence. Our partnership builds the capacity of women’s organisations in holding governments to account for the impact of their economic policies on women.

In May 2021 the Four Nations project held its first annual conference, covering gender budgeting across the four nations, looking towards a green, caring economy, an interactive open space event and a keynote on best practice in four nations collaboration. Speakers were from across the four nations including Dr Angela O’Hagan (Reader, Wise Centre for Economic Justice, Glasgow Caledonian University), Professor Ann-Marie Gray (Professor of Social Policy, Ulster University), Cerys Furlong (Chief Executive, Chwarae Teg), Professor Diane Elson (Emeritus Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Essex), Sarah Veale (former Head of Equality and Employment Rights, TUC).
