Briefing: Social Security and Covid-19

This joint briefing with The Fawcett Society outlines the gaps in the Government’s response to Covid-19 in regard to social security.

Background

It has rarely been more important that the social security system provides a safety net for all people due to widespread earnings-loss and economic downturn as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak. The Government has demonstrated agility in responding to the crisis yet there remain huge gaps.

This joint briefing with The Fawcett Society outlines the gaps in the Government’s response to Covid-19 in regard to social security including sick pay, Universal Credit, child benefit, carers’ allowance and how they have specific impacts on different groups of women as the majority of those in in and out of work poverty.
