Briefing for a future Government: Towards a green and caring economy

This briefing provides recommendations for a future Government on how we can build a green and caring economy.

Climate change has a disproportionate impact on women and the economy couldn’t function without unpaid care and domestic work. This is why we need a green and caring economic strategy.

This briefing provides an overview of WBG’s work and key policy recommendations for building a pathway toward a green and caring economy.

It’s time we recognise the invisible yet essential unpaid work, predominantly carried out by women, which sustains our society but remains largely ignored in economic policies. We emphasise the urgent need for a gender-responsive approach to address the disproportionate impact of climate change on women, who are already bearing the brunt of economic inequalities.

Our call for investment in social and physical infrastructure, progressive tax reforms, and transformative changes in the workforce aims to alleviate women’s poverty and foster a more equitable society. It’s not just about saving the planet; it’s about safeguarding the rights and well-being of women for a truly sustainable future.
