The Women’s Budget Group invites you to join this webinar, on Tuesday 8 September, 1-2pm BST, where Sue Himmelweit (Commissioner, Commission on a Gender-Equal Economy), Ann Pettifor (Commissioner, Commission on a Gender-Equal Economy), Sarah Bedford (Head of Social Policy, NEF), Nadia Whittome (MP for Nottingham East) and Danielle Paffard (Head of organising, Green New Deal UK – part of the Build Back Better Campaign) will discuss what a care led recovery from coronavirus might look like, and why investment in care is essential to creating a fairer economy. The Discussion will be chaired by Faiza Shaheen (Director of CLASS and Commissioner on a Gender Equal Economy)

Covid-19 has exposed and exacerbated the deep inequalities of gender, race, disability and wealth in our society. In order to ‘build back better’ we need a new approach in the way we value paid and unpaid care, and particularly how we invest in care, as part of our social infrastructure. We will discuss how and why the recovery from Coronavirus must centre care in order to build a fairer, more caring, economy, so that gender equality and other forms of equality are the ‘new normal’ in life after Covid-19.

This is the third webinar in our series for the Women’s Budget Group’s Commission on a Gender-Equal Economy, where we delve into some of the bigger questions arising from the discussions that have taken place throughout the Commission, exploring what a gender-equal economy could look like. The Commission on a Gender Equal Economy is working to proactively develop alternative economic policies to promote gender equality across the four nations of the UK. The final report of the Commission will be launched in autumn 2020. Follow the discussion online using #WBGCommission
