The Women’s Budget Group would like to invite you to a workshop on women, safety and the housing crisis.

One year after the mayoral election, how can we make the Mayor’s Housing Strategy work better for women?

This workshop will share knowledge between grassroots campaigners and Greater London Authority decision makers on the specific housing needs of women. It will discuss the progress of the Mayor Sadiq Khan’s £3.15billion Affordable Home Programme and consult on ways that it can work better for women.

Date: Monday 3rd July

Time: 10am – 2pm

Location: Committee Room 3, Lower Ground Floor, City Hall, London, SE1 2AA

Please book your tickets on Eventbrite

Why Women?

Women’s housing needs can be different to men’s. Caring responsibilities mean that transport links and proximity to family support networks are often very important for women, and the gendered impact of domestic abuse creates specific problems for women around safety, security and refuge.

Precarious housing and homelessness compound other issues that women face including racism, disability and physical and mental health problems. Certain groups of women such as older women, disabled women, lone mothers, low income women, and women without English language skills tend to be less mobile and more confined to their homes.

Why City Hall?

The Mayor Sadiq Khan called the mayoral election a ‘housing policy referendum’. Within the £3.15bn Affordable Homes Fund he has announced funding for the Marylebone Project and the Female Hidden Homeless Project, and he has recognised the particular vulnerability of homeless women.
