At the Women’s Budget Group we are happy to see that the IMF is paying some attention to Gender Budgeting.


The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has undertaken research on gender and macroeconomics which includes a world-wide survey of gender budgeting as a tool to increase gender equality.

The IMF, funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), is reviewing global polices on tax and expenditure against how they promote gender equality.

The IMF team have released an online toolkit of gender budgeting indicators and gender equality indices. This collaboration on gender budgeting is part of a wider macroeconomic research for development project.
